Cloud Dough

Cloud Dough is such a fun textured sensory experience! Cloud Dough is similar to play dough but it has a light, airy texture. All you need is conditioner (or lotion) and cornstarch. If you wish to color it, add some food coloring and let your littles play their little hearts out!

Ingredients Needed to Make Cloud Dough

You really don’t need a lot to make Cloud Dough! The best at home crafts are the ones with easily accessible ingredients which is why I love this recipe so much.

  • Conditioner or Lotion: Don’t use your good stuff! You can use scented or unscented depending on what you want. If you use a colored conditioner or lotion that will also color the dough.
  • Cornstarch
  • Food Coloring (optional): These are my favorite food colorings, they’re bright and they last forever. We use them in baking, crafts, etc.

How to Make Cloud Dough

  • In a large bowl, add lotion. Add food coloring if desired and mix.
  • If you want to make multiple colors, leave the food coloring out until the dough is made, then knead the coloring in as a final step.
  • Add cornstarch. Stir until fully combined.
  • Knead vigorously! It takes a few minutes for it to get to that nice, fluffy cloud consistency.

Questions Answered about Cloud Dough

  • “It’s too crumbly!”: Add a bit more lotion/conditioner. Really knead it well to ensure it mixes well!
  • “I want to add something else, what else can I add?”: Glitter, beads, and sequins for texture are great ideas.
  • “Do I have to use cornstarch?”: Yes! Do not use flour. It won’t work. If you only have flour, you can make a homemade play doh with this recipe.

Storing Cloud Dough

  • Store cloud dough in a container with a lid, or a resealable plastic bag.
  • I’ve kept it for a week with no issues but this depends on the storing method.

My son LOVED this. He played with it all day and we made several different colors. I suggest kneading it very well before playing with it.
