What is a smash taco?

A smash taco is a tortilla pressed with ground meat and then pan fried until fully cooked. This results in a crispy finish for both the protein and the tortilla.

You can fill it with whatever you like, there are a ton of variations. For this recipe, I made a Greek variation. I used ground turkey and seasoned it with salt, pepper, garlic & dill.

Making Smash Tacos

The first step to making smash tacos is to season the ground meat. I used turkey, and seasoned it with garlic, salt, pepper, and dill. Season it with whatever flavor variation you’re choosing to make.

Here’s a few ideas!

Traditional Mexican Style Tacos: Use ground chicken, beef, or turkey. Season with taco seasoning. You can also make your own if you don’t like to use packaged.

Asian Inspired: Use ground chicken, turkey, or pork. Season with garlic, ginger, hoisin sauce, and sesame seeds.

Cheeseburger: Ground beef. Season with onion powder, garlic, salt and pepper. Fold in cheddar cheese.

Place the ground meat on the tortilla (see above photos) and cook in a skillet sprayed with non stick spray. I like to use a cookie scooper to ensure the same amount of meat on each tortilla.

Cook it for about 3-4 minutes, or until the meat is cooked throughout. I also like to brown the opposite side of the tortilla.

I filled my tacos with a simple Greek salad: Chickpeas, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, and a light Greek dressing. I added some Trader Joes Tzatziki and feta cheese for a little something extra. So good!
