Baked BBQ Chicken

I love me some bbq chicken, but firing up the grill isn’t always an option. This recipe is great for bbq flavor, but it’s easy on the cook and bonus, can be made year round since all you need is an oven.

To start, preheat the oven to 400 degrees and spray a casserole dish with nonstick spray. You can also use a sheet pan with foil to make this recipe, but I prefer a casserole dish to keep the chicken juicy!

Prepping Baked BBQ Chicken

For perfect baked chicken no matter the seasoning, ensuring the thickness is the same for all pieces makes a big difference. You want the chicken to cook at the same time. Once the chicken is in the casserole dish, season with salt and pepper (this helps the bbq sauce to stick to the chicken), then slather with your choice of bbq sauce.

Chicken different sizes? Use a meat tenderizer to pound the chicken breasts to the same thickness!

Best BBQ Sauces

My overall favorite BBQ sauce is Sweet Baby Ray’s. I like that it’s got a little bit of spice, and a whole lot of sweetness. If you want to make your own, check out this recipe from our other blog. I’ve made it a few times and it’s really simple, and you can customize it to your liking!

Chicken is fully cooked at 165 degrees Fahrenheit

I can’t stress this enough, when you cook with meat, use an electronic meat thermometer! It helps you to to over or undercook your meat. This one is what we have and for under $10*, it will be your most often used kitchen gadget. Chicken is fully cooked once it reaches 165 degrees fahrenheit.

I love this chicken served with lemon potato salad, a mixed green salad, or just a side of simple white rice.
