Best Green Juice for Beginners

If you haven’t juice-ed before, this is a great recipe to start with. It has a mild but pleasant flavor, and it’s chock full of vegetables. I like this recipe because it uses a lot of apple, which yields to a really nice sweet flavor. I even mixed a little bit of lemonade into it for my son and he loved it!

Easy Green Juice Ingredients

Green Juice is super nutrient dense, and the ingredient possibility ingredients are endless. You can really customize the flavor to your liking. More sweet, use more fruit or add honey. Less Sweet, use less fruit and no honey. Taste as you go and see what you prefer!

  • Cucumber: Great for juicing and as a juice base, it has a high water content and mild flavor.
  • Green Apple: I like green apple for my juice because it’s more tart, and less sweet.
  • Celery: Full of fiber and promotes fullness. I love the sweet, peppery bite of celery in juice.
  • Kale: You can’t really taste the kale, but it gives it a great source of vitamin A, vitamin K and vitamin C. It also creates this nice green hue that is hard to replicate without it!
  • Spinach: Also high in vitamin K, it’s dense with folate and iron as well.
  • Aromatics: Basil, mint, cilantro. A small bit goes a long ways so start with a light hand.
  • Ginger: Optional, but gives a nice spice.

Other add ins which don’t go through the juicer itself would be lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice, honey/agave, and turmeric. You can also cut the green juice with coconut water, lemonade or cold water if you want something more mild.

Tips for First Time Juicers

Juicing is super simple, and the first step is to pick out your juicer! There’s a ton of options, from a small juicer that is less than $50 to start with, to this Hamilton Beach Juicer with over 40,000 reviews that can juice whole piece of fruit.

Steps to Make Juice in a Juicer

  • Read the manual of your juicer! Most important part.
  • Use freshly washed produce. Wash it well! Whatever is on the exterior of your produce will be in your juice. Be sure to remove all stickers, too!
  • Use a mixture of hard and soft fruits and vegetables. You want a good mixture of produce as not all produce has a high water content.
  • If you’re juicing greens, juice in layers. The greens themselves have low water content so they can be tough to get through the juicer. Cucumber, green cucumber works well, for example

Last the juice as you go with a clean spoon and see what it needs! Adjust as necessary, have fun with it. This is a method, not a science, and everybody likes a different flavor profile.

Storing Homemade Juice

Once you’ve made juice, the next step naturally is to store it! This is easy if you’re making a single serving, but if you’ve made more than that, you’ll need something to store it in. I like to use glass bottles, but I’ve also used these smaller plastic ones if I’m traveling and want something I can toss if I need too.

I will caution, juice is best when made fresh. You can store homemade juice in an airtight container for up to 48 hours in the refrigerator. If you are storing homemade juice, fill the bottles to the top, allowing for as little air space as possible to prevent spoilage.
