Peanut Butter with 1 Ingredient: Peanuts!

You only need 1 ingredient to make homemade peanut butter, and that ingredient is peanuts. Dry roasted works the best. There are a few tips to get you the best homemade nut butter possible!

  • Patience! It takes some time to blend peanuts into a paste. Trust the process!
  • It also takes a very good quality food processor because you’ll have to a) run it for a while and b) you have to stop, scrape, start it a few times during the process to get a smooth texture. I use a this one, but here’s a less expensive option that will work.
  • Use enough peanuts: The peanuts need to blend to a smooth texture and need a blade to run through them swiftly, so make sure the amount of peanuts you add are proportionate to the size of your food processor.

  • Add peanuts. Pulse consistently until a thick paste is formed.
  • Once you reach the consistency you desire, transfer to a jar and store in the refrigerator.
  • Remember the peanut butter will slightly harden in the refrigerator! Just give it a stir.

More Ways to Add Flavor

  • Salt: If you’re using salted peanuts, omit the salt, but if not, add some salt. Go light, and taste as you go.
  • Honey: Sweeten it up with a little bit of honey
  • Hot Honey: Make it spicy with the addition of hot honey!
  • Make it fun for the kids with the addition of sprinkles.

Storing Homemade Peanut Butter

  • Homemade peanut butter should be refrigerated. Because the only ingredient is peanuts, unlike store bought, homemade peanut butter does not contain stabilizers.
  • I like to keep homemade peanut butter in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. The science says you can keep it for over a month, but it’s so easy to make fresh, I prefer small batches at a time that get used up for no waste.
  • Airtight containers, like mason jars, work great for storing peanut butter!
